Pros +
- Quiet environment, good hot spring, good food. Service is really attentive.
- The staff was very accommodating. Our room was beautiful and had all of the details and amenities we needed to have a relaxing stay. The meals were exceptional, and getting a shuttle or taxi where we needed to go was easy.
- Room is great, spacious and good size of tub.Breakfast is fabulous. Highly recommend for couples, but not for family trip with kids.
Cons -
- This was a birthday treat for my mum. Having stayed at Lalu at Sun Moon Lake and Silks Taroko, we felt GVRB didn't meet the high standards expected, either through their overall staff, and customer service, or attention to detail in the design of the place. An example is a small thing like the welcome drink. We were given ordinary tea in paper cups, whereas elite hotels provide a very special drink perhaps with a name and explanatory card and always in a glass, porcelain/ceramic cup with exquisite presentation. As with other guest comments, the breakfast, which was non buffet, was disappointing. High-end hotels should understand how crucial breakfasts are to their guests. And that freshness and choice are basic expectations.
- The gift shop was small. It would be great to have a gift shop with local or heritage items for sale.
- The privacy curtains in the onsen room had some mold on them which is hard to avoid with the humidity and it being an older facility (we were looking right over the museum and public bathing area)

We stayed in one of the most expensive rooms, a premium quadruple room. The room itself was OK, with enough space for a hot spring bath and cold spring bath, though for a 5-star resort you would expect higher quality finishes within the room. It was nice that our request for a higher floor was fulfilled.

The dining facilities were beautiful and the food was so delicious.

Comfortable room, beautiful in room onsen including a cold pool. The staff were very attentive and friendly.Food wise we did the set menu (one vegetarian, one not) at the Chinese Restaurant, it was good but I'd probably pick and choose off the a la carte next time. Breakfast was good. There was no option for chinese vs western for the vegetarian menu so it had some quirks but the non vegetarian options my partner had looked great.
The privacy curtains in the onsen room had some mold on them which is hard to avoid with the humidity and it being an older facility (we were looking right over the museum and public bathing area)
The rooms are great, and the in-room onsen worked flawlessly as well. The shuttle service to Beitou is very convenient as well.
The breakfast could be improved. You can choose between two fixed breakfast sets, western & taiwanese. To begin with, both are way too big. I think they want to give you choice, but in the end its just wasteful as you can't finish it all. The taiwanese one had an interesting variety and was good. The western one.. well.. it feels like a "what taiwanese think is western", but hasn't much else to do with western breakfast. I think we would've preferred a buffet-style breakfast.
Cosy and spacious room with in-room hotspring pool.Cleaning staff are attentive to clean and tidy room service.Better than many big brand hotels out there.Hotel is 10mins drive from the nearest train stations and they have shuttle bus services so that is quite accessible
Building and room are modern with high grade materials and finishes
There are two restaurants at the hotel - Chinese and French. Chinese cousine choice was limited and quality was not high, French restaurant is OK but it is designed more for presentation and experience rather than food - dish size is tiny and selection is limited. But main problem is with breakfast - there is no standard buffet breakfast, only limited set menu you have to order in advance - more like a “boxed lunch”. I would expect at least standard buffet.
the onsen water was really good.... I would come back to Beitou just for the onsen water
I feel our hotel price is on the steep side. The "luxurious" feeling I normally get from other onsen hotel is missing here.
Superb! If you feel like Onsen, come here. You don't needa visit Japan. Staff friendly. Facilities clean. No weird guest. Taiwanese dinner wonderful.
Everything there is superb. we enjoyed a lot there. the Onsen was outstanding. we've tried two restaurants there, all of them were fascinating. The food, the mood, the staff...I was very happy to stay there.
Amazing experience! We felt like we were living in luxury from the moment we arrived. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and treated us so well. There were plenty of freebies in the room to enjoy. The view was stunning. The onsen in the room was incredible. The beds were comfortable and room was perfect. The meals were incredible - breakfast was huge and so delicious with generous refills on some items.
To avoid disappointment, make your dinner reservations at the on-site restaurants early. The Chinese restaurant was fully booked which was sad for us since we were only there for one night. The staff should recommend guests make their dinner reservations when you book your room. They are Michelin recommended so obviously it's popular. However, we did get to try the food via room service and it was great - huge portions of noodles.
The overall atmosphere of calm and luxury. Everything was taken care off and we especially enjoyed to have our own private spring inthe room
It felt a bit chilly in the restaurants but I suppose that is how it is in November
Well appointed Thoughtfully designed
The surroundings - not as attractive and quiet as I had hoped. Big breakfast but can have better variety from day to day.
WE LOVED THE ROOM AND THE ONSEN. THE GYM WAS TOO BASIC AND NEED MORE EQUIPMENTS. BREAKFAST WAS NOT A BUFFET BUT WAS SUFFICIENT. THE SHUTTLE BUS RIDE INTO TOWN WAS USEFUL.
THE GYM NEEDS MORE EQUIPMENT.
Shuttle bus between mrt and hotel, personalized and dedicated greeting, one on one service and room tour, soundproof room, spacious room, complimentary are very nice, baths are amazing. Staff very professional and friendly. Taiwanese breakfast was a delicacy.
I had to book and pay for two guests room even though I was alone.
Fantastic hotel, great facilities and amazing staff. MyHousekeeper deserves a special comment as she was so helpful and so friendly and happy! It made a big difference to my stay.
Bit out of the way if you want to explore the city, but an amazing location for relaxation.
Room was wonderful! We had a private onsen in the room that included both hot and cold pools. We were celebrating our 11th anniversary, so it was cute to walk into the room and see some towel-swans and rose petals left by housekeeping. The bed was so comfortable, and we had a fantastic night of sleep. The bowl of fresh fruit (including guava!) and pineapple cakes were really lovely touches. In-room bar also had some really nice, regional teas from all throughout Taiwan. The whole room experience was A+.Public onsen baths were really clean, had good quality toiletries, and pools of various sizes and temperatures. There was also a sauna and steam room as well. Appreciated the little fridge with some sodas and water bottles to refresh yourself between soakings. The breakfast included was great for non-vegetarians (like my husband). He had a good variety of Taiwanese dishes, fruits, and veggies with his breakfast set.The hotel gifted us a small, 2-3inch mousse cake to help us celebrate our anniversary, which was very kind and we are so thankful for the gesture. It was delicious and definitely helped make the experience a bit more special. There were some pretty cool and rarer ingredients on the set menus as well, such as white ferula and blaze mushrooms.
I think for a onsen resort of this price and star-rating, they could definitely offer both breakfast AND dinner. I've stayed at other onsen resorts of similar quality and price in Taiwan and Japan, and they almost *always* include a grand breakfast buffet and a really nice dinner set meal (kaiseki). It made the hotel seem really stingy to not only charge so much for the room rate, but also have high prices for dinner. We ordered the prix fixe for dinner, a vegetarian one for me and a regular one for my husband. For my husband, his dishes tended to be too salty; for me, some were not flavored enough. The braised lion's mane dish for me has a pretty misleading name, since there is actually very little lion's mane and is mostly soy protein paste. The menus were not cheap, and we definitely expected more out of the experience. We also did not realize that the restaurant closes at 9pm and definitely felt like we were getting rushed out near the end. They kind of just threw the cake on the table when we were done with the last dish. I don't like forcing people to stay overtime, but I think there's a better way to compensate for closing time (suggesting guests to book an earlier dinner time, less lag time between serving dishes...etc.).Breakfast for the vegetarian set was also pretty stingy. I pretty much just got a couple of fruit cups and a salad. The main was a baked vegan steak that was essentially the same thing as the lion's mane dish. It would be nice if vegetarian meals were treated with the same kind of care that they showed in my husband's omnivore meal set.
The place is amazing and the view great.
For the money we spent the breakfast was really not it. It was a pre-made set and we were only able to choose between 2 options. No possibility to have something different at all.
